02-12-15 Same Old Sun, Different Day

By Scott Shephard

Yesterday I shared a sunrise photo and today you see the sunset. Of course, the sun isn't here - we can only infer it's existence.

Photographers and film-makers are no doubt aware of the "golden hour," which is the time surrounding the sunrise and sunset when the light is best for portraits. But if you are looking for the best light to capture the beauty of the play of light on sky, clouds and water, you don't have an hour. Generally, you only have minutes when the fleeting light seems electric. Then a switch is flipped and the great light is gone.

Here, you are looking west towards Baja California from our boat the Safari Endeavour. I was lucky to spend a week on board and even luckier to get to witness this beautiful landscape again and again and again.
