Fog isn't unheard of on Lake Oahe, though in the 25 years I've been sailing on this huge reservoir I can't say I've encountered it often. On this particular day, it was sunny and relatively calm. I had motored from the marina to a spot called "Hurricane Bay" so I could enjoy the morning, clean the boat and wait for a little wind.

I got there and then the fog moved in. The thing that was interesting to me is that its thickness varied from time to time. I took this photo at the moment the fog thinned enough to reveal the promise of sunshine.

I'm thinking that this a a pretty bland photo. If I had a dinghy, I could have moved away from my boat and framed it in the foreground of the photo, which would indicate human presence in this place.

But now that I think of it, many of the photos I've taken at Oahe show water, land and sky. And no humans. And, I'll admit, that's one of the things I like most about the place and why I've been making pilgrimages there for all of those years. There is something I like about being an unobserved observer.
