09-13-17 Floating on Clouds
By Scott Shephard
I made one last trip to Lake Oahe earlier this week and enjoyed spectacular weather. This isn't the first photo I've taken of my boat sitting quietly at anchor in my favorite cove in Mission Creek; but, as I've said before in this blog, I tend to repeat myself.
One of the joys of photography for me is that the camera often "sees" things a little differently than I do with the naked eye. It magnifies. it broadens. it colors. it ignores. It accentuates. Then, in software, photographers have even more ways to interpret the world. In this case, of course, there is no color - only lines and texture and light. For me, that's enough.
And when you add a superhuman perspective to all of this (aka a Phantom 4 Pro drone 400' above the ground), you see what is impossible to see by either eye or camera at water level.
After landing my drone and putting it away and after the sun went down, I poured my last ounce of Scotch over what few ice cubes had survived two days of warmer than normal September weather and I toasted a good day, a great place and a blessed life.
And then I named this bay "Balvenie Bay" after the good whiskey I had just sipped. Put this on the map, please.
