09-24-14 The Mighty Oak

I guess I've already confessed my oak leaf fetish. And it continues with this post. But this time I've captured the richly textured bark of one of the many trees that stand guard at Lakota Lake in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
I had about a 4 minutes window of opportunity on this one given that the sun was rising and it only gave this strong sidelight for a short time. And without the sidelight you wouldn't be seeing the richly textured bark of this wonderful tree in quite the same way. As I've said before, photography is all about the light. . . .
