These two are striking a pose, of course, though I had nothing to do with it. The so-called "panhandling" donkeys in Custer State Park in South Dakota know that when a car slows down, they need to look their best. After all, they may be in for a treat, including potato chips, pretzels and other survival foods they find in the wild.

I took this photo close to 10 years ago and I can't help but wonder about the lives of these two since then. Are they still working the crowd? Do they get together for family reunions? Is a diet of human junk food a healthy way for these guys to eat? Who knows? Incidentally, did you know that a baby donkey is called a "foal" and that a female donkey is called a "jenny?" Now you do.
