12-02-14 The Eye of the Beholder

By Scott Shephard

My art museum photography is a benign form of voyeurism - I love candid captures people doing what people do in art galleries. Sometimes I have to wait for people to move to the right spot but in this case, when I went into this gallery, everything was perfectly composed.

I took three quick photos but I like this one the best for three reasons. First, I like how almost all of the lines help point to and frame the subject. I also like the peaceful silence this photo conveys. And finally, I like the irony of a man, surrounded by many great works of art, choosing instead to look out at the New York City skyline, which, I suppose, is another form of modern art.
