22.02.10 It's All Been Done

By Scott Shephard

When I stood over this beautiful aeonium (I had to google this) I knew that I wasn’t doing anything that hadn’t been done before. After all, the color, textures and symmetry say, “Photograph me!” And so I did.

I don’t mention him much, but the photographer I was channeling for this picture is Edward Weston, who managed to make the most mundane things like peppers and cabbage look sexy. That’s a gift. Check this link out if you don’t believe me, but be forewarned that Weston is also famous for his nudes. Peppers weren’t enough for him, I guess.

Weston worked in black and white, as did Ansel Adams (whom I also channel somewhat poorly from time to time), and so here is the same aeonium in many shades of gray. I kind of like this one better. But I’m a little old fashioned.
