06-23-15 What Are You Looking At??!!! (Kind of NSFW)

By Scott Shephard

Of all the things I have photographed on our stay in San Francisco, this is the one that begged to be posted today. The works are titled Pope Clement VII, by Edme Bouchardon, and Thalia, Muse of Comedy, by Jean Marc Nattier. I'll let you figure out which is which.

I can't tell you why the two rather different subjects are staged side by side in the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco but I was intrigued. Pope Clement seems uncomfortable at best and perhaps peeved at worst. And is the muse of comedy, who seems to be experiencing a wardrobe malfunction, trying to get a laugh? Or is she trying to get some other kind of response?

I have no answers. I just take pictures.

Nothing better to do right now? How about browsing a few of my favorites from San Francisco. Note that there isn't a single San Francisco icon pictured. And you'll have to look closely to find a single person. I'm not bragging. :-) I guess the subjects I choose to photograph say something about me. I like quiet, serene places. San Francisco isn't generally considered quiet and serene. But if you look, those places are generously provided.
