Me & My Shadow

I was out looking for pictures of the flooding in our community and as I walked closer to the area I wanted to photograph, I noticed my shadow walking ahead of me. I pointed my iPhone on the ground and, with a little help from Instagram, this is the photo I got.

Weather Related

Just when we thought spring had arrived, we got a snow. But this snow came down in clumps. Fortunately, the snow melted by the next day.

The Big Landscape Sphere

This landscape globe is in the lobby of the Fine Arts Theater at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. I think the artist is a South Dakota artist named Dick Termes, who calls his creations Termespheres.

iPhonography

I didn't make the word "iPhonography" up. It is a "school" of photography these days and you have noticed that several of my recent posts have a different look. That's partly because I've been use my phone quite a bit to take photos. It is also because I have been using an app called Instagram to edit and then post the photos.Of course, it's not the camera or the software that takes the photos. But in the case of these iPhone photography, both the hardware and the software are more prominent in the look the pictures have. Like it or not, I will be playing around some more with these cool tools and sharing a few of the products here. This photo, incidentally, is in the atrium of the Holiday Inn next to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, SD.

Iron Creek

20110402-051104.jpgI'm back at Iron Creek again, but this time with my cell phone camera and Instapaper.I made a short video of this place, which you can view here. The video was made with my iPhone and then edited and published (via ATT 3G) with my iPad 2. The movie needs more editing but it is testament to how fairly simple tools allow for creation and publication in the field (or in this case, in the woods).

Japanese Garden

My photo students and I are learning about "Blending Options" in Photoshop so I'm experimenting. These beautiful, smooth stones were part of the landscape at the Japanese Garden on the campus of Cal State in Long Beach, CA.

Nixon's the One

While visiting the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California, I found this bust of Nixon, apparently looking approvingly at a series of US flags. He seems satisfied. And he's been bronzed.

The Old, Rugged Tree

While visiting California recently, I wandered over to a cemetery near my aunt's house. It was a cemetery unlike anything in my home state - large mausoleums with drawers for the remains of loved ones. And there were no above-ground tomb stones. The most striking feature was the landscape and trees, most of which were kinds I didn't recognize. I'm guessing this tree, which is framed by the colored class walls of mausoleum vestibule, is older than the cemetery. Is is a banyan tree? I don't know.
