21.10.14 Solitude

By Scott Shephard

Two weeks ago I was enlisted by Deb to help with her first ever “girls” trip to the family’s Black Hills cabin. I was the ATV driver, the chief fire starter and chaperone, though chaperoning Deb, Deb, Kim and Glenyce was pointless and maybe hopeless. But in all, the “girls” were well behaved.

On the last morning I offered the opportunity for one last visit to a place I call The Rock for a sunrise “experience.” Kim was quick to commit to this. And so, in the early light of a windless and relatively warm October day, we made our way to the top.

The Rock is one of a hand full of profoundly meaningful places for me. It had even more meaning to be sharing this place and this amazing sunrise with a special friend.
