I don’t like winter, which is a bit of a mistake where I live since winter comes early and seems to stay late. Occasionally, though, I do get outside. I think that one of the virtues of photography for me is that in winter, when I am closing in on an outdoor subject, I am able to sublimate self and selfish concerns, such as cold fingers and toes. For example, I don’t remember feeling cold when I took this photo but I do remember where I was and the emotions I felt when I took it - even though I photographed this frozen leaf more than 10 years ago. The emotions? I felt awe and gratitude to be in this special place at just the right time.
