We left the Alimos Marina west of Athens yesterday about 3:30 on our chartered catamaran Reina. Because this is a really big boat, we are required to have a skipper. His name is Kostas. I was concerned about having a “stranger” on boat. But not only is he likable, he is very good.
The company has a standard itinerary for our week but Captain Shep (aka our youngest son Jon) had a very different idea. He wanted to go where there are few crowds. Where did that come from? Kostas was more than willing to go to more interesting places.
We motored into the small port town of Karissa on the island of Kea in total darkness around 8:30 last night. I was glad Kostas was in charge because there wasn’t much room at the quay. Our boat is the last boat on the right, incidentally
Today we will go to the other side of the island and explore beaches and ancient ruins. And tonight we will be somewhere else at a different island. Such is life . . . .
