The so-called “golden hour” is the hour just before sunset or sunrise. For portrait photographers, it offers relatively soft, warm light, which are both sought after in portraits. And I guess you could say that this shot, taken as the sun was setting over the North Dakota Badlands, is a kind of a portrait. Is it flattering to the subject? Does it reveal something about the character of this place? Are there blemishes that should have been retouched? I’ll leave it to you to answer those questions.
