I had some time in the main train station of Berlin a couple years ago and so I told Deb I was going to go looking for photos. I think I could spend all day in a place like this, surrounded with fascinating architecture and busy people.Sometimes when I take a photo I imagine that no one else has done so before. I'm a bit of a pioneer who is trying to show the world something that its never seen before. Yes, that's grandiose, I'll admit.This photo isn't one of those photos. I'm guessing many photographers have snapped a photo similar to this. So why publish it? Because even though it may not be unique and "new," I like it. Snow In Berlin?

I think it may snow on rare occasions in Berlin, Germany. But if you own a Brandenburg Gate snow globe, you can make it snow whenever you want. I wonder if they sell Great Pyramid snow globes in Egypt? I'm wondering if they even know what snow is in Egypt. . .

Memorial To the Murdered Jews of Europe

Not too far from where Hitler's Chancery building stood and close to where Hitler committed suicide in his famous underground bunker, lies this unsettling memorial to all of the Jews who were murdered in Europe.This memorial was dedicated in 2005 and has been controversial because some say the memorial doesn't attempt to answer questions like "how?" and "why?"I'm afraid that this photo doesn't come close to giving the viewer a sense of this place and a sense of my emotions as I looked for the right way to photograph it. In the end, I chose to include the trees bordering the monument to the west because I liked the contrast.For a brief video explanation, click here.

This is the Egyptology area of the Neues Museum (New Museum) on what is called "Museum Island" in Berlin, Germany. It may look like the museum was empty when I took this but it was actually fairly crowded. I got lucky to have the room to myself for a moment or two.Canon 5D 1/40s f/1.2 ISO400 50mm

11-27-09 Looking Up

I'm sorry to say this, but I don't know what specific dome I am picturing here. I do know that it is one of the art museums in Berlin, Germany. The structure was beautiful and the art was even better.
