Pont du Garde

This is a Roman aqueduct and bridge in the south of France. What are we building that will still be standing 2000 years from now?

A Real Venetian

I think the lady strolling past the opening to this courtyard is a real Venetian. But she is not a Venusian. (I don't think so, anyway.)

French Pizza

We enjoyed this in Arles, where Vincent Van Gogh lived and worked for a while. I wonder what his impression of French Pizza was?

Elvis Lives!

I captured this rare sighting along the River Seine in Paris.

Copyright Violation?

Did you know that publishing photos of the Eiffel Tower taken during the day are OK but publishing a night time shot violates the copyright held on the Eiffel Tower? It does, though this shot was taken at dusk.

The Little Angel

This ornament, which adorns our "tropical fish" bathroom, is my favorite Christmas ornament. I have tried to photograph it as it hangs near the bathroom window but haven't gotten good results. So this morning I put it on our dining room Christmas tree and photographed it there.I like the textures of this ornament - especially in the star being held by the little angel.

Where's George?

This is a composite picture of two scans I made of a dollar bill I found in my pocket yesterday. I have seen the "Where's George" stamp on money before but today I decided to track this bill. I went to the web site wheresgeorge.com, put the serial number in and found that this particular bill had traveled to Watertown from Ohio. How it got here I don't know.I told my students about this project and gave this dollar to a student who is going to Florida for Christmas. She needs to spend it there and with a little luck, I'll be able to follow my dollar's journey.

The Inner Sanctum

It may seem a little odd that I am posting a photo like this but it is rare that my desk is this clean. Thus, to commorate this rarity, I am sharing my workspace with the world. I don't keep a timer going, but I'm guessing I spend about 4 hours a day here. Thus I have many tools to keep me entertained.

Contrail & Crescent Moon At Dawn

I owe this shot to my son Brian - he looked up and saw it and I happened to have my camera. Is there some deep meaning in this photo? Maybe. Or is it that I have nothing better to post? Who knows. . .

What Is Reality?

This is a real trout and a real fisherman. But is the fish really as big as it appears? I think you know the answer - this fish was only about 13" long. The trick is an old fisherman's trick. You simply hold the fish as far away from your body as you can, and, if you are lucky, the photographer has a wide angle lens. Does this fisherman need to exaggerate when it comes to fish size? I don't think so. He's an accomplished fisherman who already has one "real" big fish posted in this blog.

The World Is Your Cupcake

One of the slogans of Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD, is "It's your world." These cupcakes were offered to spectators at the ground breaking of Phase 3 of the LATI improvement and growth program. I didn't make these delicacies but I did eat two shortly after I took the photo.

The Little Angel - Another View

I have posted this angel before but came across a series of photos I had taken in 2002. So I thought I'd posted a different point of view.
