Being at the right place at the right time is a a key to making an interesting picture. Though, as Ansel Adams said, “Fortune favors the prepared mind.” I guess I was ready for this shot . . . .

It is amazing thing to attempt to swim with these playful sea-lion pups.

This morning I’m alone with my thoughts but I’m in a pretty crowded room.

By June (or maybe earlier?) maybe we’ll have a bridge to Somewhere?

A photo isn’t always about some lost moment . . .

I have to wonder if the person who mowed this lawn used GPS to get the lines so perfectly straight and perpendicular?

This was the only good shot I got of this group. It all fell apart shortly afterwards.

11-29-13 Perfect

November 29, 2014 in Blog, Family, Portrait

By Scott Shephard

I'm not sure how you would define "perfect" but Glenyce Jane comes close to exemplifying the word for me. What grandparent wouldn't think that? Add Katie and son Brian to the mix . . . well, it doesn't get much better.

I will admit that our visit to Washington Square Park in lower Manhattan left a little to be desired. It was cold, breezy and for our formal attempts at a family portrait, Glenyce was uncooperative. This unguarded, spontaneous moment was the only real keeper of the 15 photos I took. I like it, though I'll admit my aesthetic senses are blurred a bit by my love for the subjects. :-)

Is the photo perfect? Not really. And I am somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to my photos. But it occurs to me that for a perfectionist, very little in life is perfect. That's a bit of a paradox, isn't it?
