We spent Sunday night Mediterranean moored in a picture perfect town my brother-in-law Scott D. described as seeming “like a movie set.” Mediterranean mooring puts the stern (back) of the boat against the “dock.” The anchor secures the bow and two lines secure the stern. The advantage of this type of mooring is that is is easy to go from the boat to terra firma. The disadvantage is that it takes considerable expertise to do this, especially in a crowded marina. Our skipper, Kostas, however, has 15 years of experience. No Problem.
We had a prime spot in this port, incidentally, because Kostas is the friend of the harbor master. (In case you wonder, our boat, Reina, is the one in the middle of these three.)
Our itinerary, proposed by son Jon and approved by Kostas, has so far taken us away from the typical cruising spots. In addition, this is the shoulder season for island cruising and so there weren’t many people like us here. Perfect.
We ate dinner at a sidewalk cafe. I had chicken souvlaki served with French fries and peta bread. I can’t tell you about the others in our group, but I was in bed and sleeping by 9:30. The cruising life is exhausting.
