There are those who would say that central South Dakota is a barren place. But they’re not seeing it the way that I and many others who love this landscape. It helps, of course, to rise above the landscape as I have with my drone. And it also helps to find the right light. The problem with aerial photos is that they tend to flatten the terrain but if you are lucky like I was this morning, you can catch the sun minutes after it shows itself because it lights the edges of all of the contours.
There are so many textures and lines to look at here. And there is the hint of green, which to me, at this time of year, is all about Hope.
How can you say this place is barren?
