Earlier this summer we took our 3 grandchildren on their first of 2 camping trips. One of our stops was at the Little Bend Recreation Area at Lake Oahe (Missouri River). I had talked about my reverence for this place and said someday they would see it. I had also worked hard on lowering their exceptions given that this campground caters more to hermits (me) and fishermen (not me).
We spent one night there and I think they were generally satisfied. But I don’t think they’d choose to go back there again. They prefer sandy beaches, interesting hiking/biking trails and elaborate playgrounds at the campgrounds they visit.
Ibby and Glenny did enjoy using the scooter. For the record (and the parents if they are reading this) I had the speed set on “You Won’t Get Hurt” and I also carefully supervised their use of this machine. This is Ibby, incidentally, who was also the only one to get into Lake Oahe. The water temperature was still in the 60s and I got cold just watching her.
