When we were staging this photo of Bob Spears, a local attorney who was running for South Dakota Third Circuit judge, the big question was whether Bob should smile or look stern. We took a few of each look, but the smile won hands down. Who wouldn't like a friendly looking judge?
I suspect that Bob is still smiling today after his fairly close victory. His smile may also be due in part to the fact that he can quit campaigning. The Third Circuit covers a huge part of eastern South Dakota and Bob spent a lot of time at parades, homecomings and other gatherings.
I don't know what role a photo plays in getting a candidate votes but I was honored to be asked to play a role in the campaign.
