I will start by claiming that this post is 99% apolitical. If you’re left wondering how a kitten can be the least bit political, I will admit that she’s named after our soon-to-be 46th president. If you’re inclined to block my posts for this, you might be comforted to know that we have a gold fish named Trump, who has been farmed out to a good Republican fish pond for the winter.
Joey is 7 months old and a rescue from the Humane Society. And right now she’s sitting in front of my keyboard watching these letters appear on the screen. I’ve never had anyone pay such close attention to my writing. She purrs incessantly and is the personification of perpetual motion.
At this point, some of you may be wondering about Zeke. He’s still part of our family and we really got Joey to be Zeke’s friend. During the Covid-19 months we’ve traveled with Zeke because we didn’t want to have someone come in to our home to care for him. But now that we see travel as a stronger possibility, we thought we could leave him in the company of Joey for a few days at a time. How does Zeke feel about this? So far it’s been mostly hisses and growls. But like reasonable Republicans and Democrats, we imagine they will learn to get along. And maybe even to like each other . . . .
