I have to wonder if the person who mowed this lawn used GPS to get the lines so perfectly straight and perpendicular?

This was the only good shot I got of this group. It all fell apart shortly afterwards.

08-30-14 Rock of Ages

August 30, 2014 in Black Hills, Blog, HDR, Landscape, Nature, South Dakota

By Scott Shephard

Deb and I had been by the area featured in this photo, which is a few miles away from our cabin, on our last trip out to our cabin. When I saw it then, I thought that it might have photographic possibilities. This morning when I woke up, I saw that the sky was clear and that the possibilities of a brilliant sunrise were good.

So we got in the RZR and drove here. Oncie there, I had about 15 minutes of good light. This tree caught my eye and I took several featuring it but I ended up liking this view best.

This is an HDR photo, incidentally, and while many say that HDR is a fad and that the look of HDR is over the top, I think this photo illustrates the possibilities of extending the exposure range of a scene that has areas that very bright and areas that are in complete shadow. You are looking at a single photo but there are actually 5 exposures layered here.
