Of the three grandchildren that I photographed out in the Black Hills a few days ago, I was most concerned about Maggie. She is a great subject, as I think this photograph illustrates. But she won’t stand still. My reflexes may be a bit slower behind the camera, but the camera focus mechanism compensates.
Here, Maggie wasn’t being coached to lean forward but she does so anyway. And it’s the perfect pose. Is it really better to be lucky than good? I’d rather be good, I guess, but its also good to be in the right place at the right time.
